The portfolio page is designed to monitor and manage investments. It allows to add new investments such as stocks, mutual funds, bonds or even real estate, modify existing investments by providing new price per share, delete investments and download quotes from the Internet for the publicly traded investments. It also provides means to record such investment actions as purchase of stock, sell, reinvest of dividends, etc.
The page consists of two tabs: Investments and Transactions.
Investment tab opens by default and contains a table of all the configured investments along with quantity, current price per share and gain. If you don't own shares of the investment, then the table shows only name of the investment and market price per share. This table is populated by default with the most popular investments like Dow Jones Industrial Average, Standard & Poor's 500 Index and NASDAQ Composite Index. These investments can safely be removed by clicking at Delete investment button or just pressing the Delete key.
AceMoney uses FIFO (first-in, first-out) method to compute gain for stocks and mutual funds: the first shares acquired are the first sold. This method is assumed as default by the IRS unless specified differently.
New investment can be added by clicking Add Investment button or Insert key.
Existing investment can be updated by double clicking a row in the table or using Edit investment button. AceMoney will display Investment properties dialog which allows to change investment name, symbol (ticker), or manually enter the latest price per share (use Update button in Investment properties dialog for that). Additional help is available in the Investment Details Dialog.
Investment may be removed from the list with Delete investment button or Delete key.
Use Download prices button to automatically download stock quotes from Internet for the existing investments. Quotes may be updated for individual investments within Investment properties dialog.
Transactions tab allows to enter all investment related transactions. AceMoney doesn't allow to specify number of shares directly in the properties of investments: instead all operations with stocks must be done through transactions. A transaction represents basic operation on investment: buy, sell, dividends, etc.
Use New Transaction button to record new transaction. Additional help is available in Investment Transaction Dialog.
Existing transactions can be modified by double clicking on the transaction line.
Transaction can be removed using Delete key. You may also right click in the transaction list and select Delete from the popup menu.
